In Ghana, the process of strengthening the child protection system is following the appropriate path from evidence to policy to practice. It began in 2010 with analysis and mapping of the existing child protection system, which found it to be inadequate. This work provided a strong evidence base for the new National Child Protection Policy framework, drafting of which began in 2013. This both generated and reflected stronger government commitment for reform of the system. The new framework comprises two distinct but linked policies: the Child and Family Welfare Policy, which was approved by the Cabinet in February 2015, and the Justice for Children Policy, which is expected to be finalized by the end of 2015.
