Our Impact
A Decade of Progress
Over the past decade, the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance has
emerged as the driving force behind the enhancement of the social service
workforce worldwide. As the only network of our kind, we bolster the capacity, knowledge and
political will to help low- and middle-income countries benefit from a well-planned, developed
and supported social service workforce.

Uniting for Change
Our global network, spanning 150 countries, has united more than 3,500 members, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among diverse stakeholders engaged in workforce strengthening and igniting change at local, regional and global levels.
- Our annual symposia, which see an average of 355 attendees across 28 countries, provide a forum for practitioners to tackle common challenges facing the workforce collectively.
- Our interest and working groups have harnessed input from various stakeholders to develop new tools and guidance.
- We provide a platform for social service workforce strengthening professionals to connect, share experiences, exchange ideas and build partnerships.
Advancing Knowledge
We give countries and partners the essential tools to better plan, develop and support the social service workforce.
- Our widely recognized resources and our vast database of over 1,400 partner resources give countries the essential tools to better plan, develop and support the social service workforce.
- Our annual State of the Social Service Workforce Reports have analyzed social service workforce-related trends and lessons learned in more than 70 countries to make recommendations for social service system strengthening.
- Our 50+ webinars have showcased the latest research, best practices and innovative approaches in workforce strengthening.
Building Capacity
Our workforce assessments and strategic advice have helped build the capacity of local stakeholders to strengthen their social service workforce and improve the systems that ensure the well-being of at-risk populations.
- We've conducted workforce mapping assessments across 32 countries allowing countries to make data-informed decisions to strengthen their workforce.
- We worked with UNICEF and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to develop the Hanoi Declaration for Strengthening Social Work, which provides a much-needed commitment to invest in and expand the social service workforce across Southeast Asia.
- In coordination with UNICEF, we've supported the Government of Uganda to develop a national framework for strengthening the social service workforce.
Advocating for the Workforce
Our advocacy efforts have been instrumental in elevating the understanding of and garnering support for the social service workforce.
- Over 30 organizations join us every year to advocate for the workforce during Social Service Workforce Week.
- Our 18 past Alliance Ambassadors have helped encourage workforce-supportive policy change at national and regional levels, including drafting legislation to support the professionalization of para professionals and increasing budget allocations from government.
- 35 organizations joined us to issue a ‘Call to Action for Strengthening the Social Service Workforce to Better Protect Children and Achieve the SDGs'.
