Many of the household- and community-level stresses which hamper the development of children affected by adult HIV also hinder antiretroviral therapy (ART) uptake and adherence. Because of this overlap, programs which seek to remove or mitigate these barriers to child development, through household- and community-level interventions could also be indirectly improving treatment uptake and adherence among adults living in these same households.
