There are many ways to engage with the Alliance and members from around the globe throughout the year. The Alliance hosts many events as well as shares information on events taking place globally of interest to the social service workforce.

Annual Symposium

The 5th Annual Symposium will be a daylong event held on May 8, 2018, in Washington, DC, and live webcast. View the full agenda and register now. The Global Social Service Workforce Alliance hosts an Annual Symposium brings attention to the need for planning, developing and supporting the social service workforce. Data and strengthening efforts are highlighted through panel presentations from experts in the field during this event. Recordings, summaries and presentations from prior years can also be viewed.

International Conferences

The Alliance maintains an online calendar of events of upcoming conferences relevant to the social service workforce. Members are invited to submit upcoming conference information through the online form for inclusion on this calendar.

Social Service Workforce Week

Social Service Workforce Week 2017 was celebrated September 25 – 29. Held annually, the week is an opportunity to raise awareness and increase engagement and interest in workforce strengthening initiatives. The 2017 theme highlighted the reasons why we need to advocate for a stronger workforce to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals on violence, migration and health. Tools for advocating for the workforce were shared during the daily themed blogs and related resources. Worker profiles also highlighted the many varying roles within the social service workforce. Read the daily materials and the recap of the week. Planning is underway for Social Service Workforce Week in September 2018. More details will be announced in June 2018.

World Social Work Day

Every year, World Social Work Day is celebrated the third Tuesday of March, and events are organized throughout the month of March. World Social Work Day is an opportunity for social workers and others in the social service sector to celebrate their achievements as well as to raise awareness and support for the important role that social workers play in the lives of vulnerable families and communities. The day calls attention to the need for further planning, development and support to the profession and social service sector.
